Jones came to BYU–Hawaii as the assistant athletic director and compliance officer in January 2016. Jones brings a wealth of experience to the Seasider program after working in conference administration and on-campus operations for over 10 seasons.

“We’re excited to have Brad’s experience - especially as a Seasider - to add to this role,” President John Tanner said. “Our student athletes, coaches and staff will certainly benefit from his passion and precision as a leader.”

Before his time at BYU–Hawaii, he worked at the University of Hawaii as the director of football administration overseeing the administrative aspects of its football team.

Jones started his career at the National Association of Basketball Coaches before moving to conference administration. He was director of championships for the Western Athletic Conference and the Atlantic 10 Conference directing all championships and regular season administration, as well as policy and scheduling duties.

Gabriel Roberts

With this appointment, Roberts becomes the fifth men’s basketball head coach in the Seasiders’ 38-year history.

“I’m both humbled and grateful for the opportunity to coach such a well-respected program,” Roberts said. “It’s an honor to continue after a legend like Ken Wagner and I look to build on the rich tradition he left behind of excellence both on and off the court.”

Roberts succeeds legendary coach Ken Wagner who he assisted for eight years. He is only the second head coach for BYU–Hawaii at the NCAA Division II level.

“Gabe’s been a loyal assistant here and he’s just a great person,” former head coach Ken Wagner said. “I can’t think of anyone that will do a better job in the final season and making sure the players have a great experience and season.”

Roberts has helped guide the Seasiders during several of their best seasons including a 27-2 run in 2008-09. He has also seen and coached many well-known BYU-Hawaii players including Lucas Alves, Marcus Whippy and Jet Chang.

The Seasiders achieved an overall record of 159-62 with five berths into the NCAA West Regional during Roberts’ eight years.
