Devotional: Vai Sikahema to be Final Summer 2014 Speaker

On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, Vai Sikahema, President of the Cherry Hill New Jersey Stake and NBC10 News Today news anchor and sports director, will speak at the weekly Devotional at 11 AM in the Cannon Activities Center.

President Sikahema graduated from Brigham Young University (Provo) where he played football and earned his degree in broadcast journalism. He is a member of BYU’s Hall of Fame and is a 2013 inductee into the Philadelphia Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame. He was the first Tongan to play for the NFL (National Football League), playing for the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles during his professional career. He has earned two Emmys for his work in local television, and in 2012, he won the Deseret News President’s Award in Utah for his weekly column “Vai’s View.” Sikahema also hosts “Wednesday’s Child,” a weekly feature promoting the adoption of children. In 2011, he received a commendation from the Congressional Caucus of Adoption in Washington, D.C. for his dedication to this program.

His Devotional address, entitled “Gospel Culture, Ethnic Culture, and Education,” will discuss what he has learned from his own culture as a Tongan and as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The campus community, including students, faculty, and staff – as well as the general public – is invited to attend this special gathering. For those who cannot attend the Devotional, it be streamed live at flash.byuh.edu/live.html, and will be available on demand on Thursday, August 28, at devotional.byuh.edu
