Hurricane, Tropical Storm Preparation and Information

Updated 5:22 PM, Friday, August 8, 2014

(please read previous notices on this page, as well as the most current)

The Tropical Storm Warning for Oahu has been cancelled and the All Clear has been given by the Department of Emergency Management. Preparations continue for any possible impact by Hurricane Julio. The National Weather Service projects the system will pass north of the Hawaiian Islands on Monday afternoon and will likely be a Tropical Storm.

As a result of the storm systems, the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management has issued a High Surf Advisory for east facing shores of Oahu, which includes the windward coastline. The advisory is in effect through Monday morning, August 11. Please exercise caution near the coastlines.

A big MAHALO to all those who worked and are working behind the scenes to prepare and protect our 'ohana, campus and community.

Classes will be held today (Friday, August 8). Iselle has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and the projected path continues south of the island chain. High winds and rain are forecast for today and tomorrow. A Tropical Storm warning continues for most of the Hawaiian Islands. Hurricane Julio is being monitored closely as it moves toward the islands, projected to pass north of Oahu around Sunday or Monday. The American Red Cross shelter remains open Friday morning at BYU–Hawaii's CAC for anyone in the general public.
