New Internal Audit Director Joins the BYU–Hawaii Ohana

BYU–Hawaii welcomes Christopher Beard as the new Director of Compliance and Internal Audit Services.

“We welcome Chris to the BYU–Hawaii team,” says Norman Black, vice president of administration. “We are excited to have him. He comes with a great auditing background, and he will be able to help us keep all our areas in compliance.”

He graduated with an associate of applied science degree in hotel management from Paul Smith’s College and a bachelor of science in accounting from Castleton State College. He has most recently worked as a senior internal auditor at BYU–Idaho and previously as an internal auditor in the casino entertainment industry. With over twenty years of work experience as an auditor and consultant, Beard brings expertise and a strong level of industry understanding to the university.

“The opportunity to come to Hawaii is amazing for two entirely different reasons,” says Beard. “One is that it provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience for my family to experience a very diverse campus culture with people from all over the world who have a testimony of Jesus Christ and for my kids to learn and grow. Secondly, my position is charged to ensure the assets and integrity of BYU–Hawaii are protected and to help others understand the importance of their own role in protecting the university.”

Beard is married to Meredith and has two sons and one daughter, ages five to eleven.
