Hollands to Speak at Devotional

Utah Valley University president Matthew Holland and his wife Paige Holland will be Devotional speakers on Tuesday, April 5, 2015. The campus and community are invited to attend at 11 AM in the Cannon Activities Center. The Devotional broadcast will also be streamed live at http://flash.byuh.edu/live.html.

Matthew S. Holland was appointed the sixth president of Utah Valley University in 2009. Under his leadership, UVU completed a remarkable transition from a state college to full-fledged university and adopted a unique institutional mission focused on student success.

President Holland earned a B.A. in political science from Brigham Young University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Duke University. He also earned a graduate certificate at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for the study of ethical political leadership. Despite many administrative demands at UVU, President Holland has stayed active in his academic discipline, publishing and guest lecturing at universities such as Stanford, Harvard, Notre Dame, and Oxford. He is a Visiting Fellow in the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University.

Paige Holland was born and raised in Provo, Utah where she attended Timpview High School.  She graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.  She began her professional career working for FOX News as a weekend reporter while managing the KBYU news room during the week.  In 1996 she married the longtime bachelor Matt Holland. Currently, she is raising four children, Jake, Mitzi, Grace and Dan, the delights of her life.  She also plays an active role at Utah Valley University where her husband, Matt, serves as president.

She has made numerous presentations on campus, in the community, and even nationally as an advocate for the importance of higher education for young women.  Her fundraising efforts helped secure the main donation that led to the new WeeCare Center at UVU providing affordable day care for low income students.  And, each year now she hosts a very popular and influential gathering to discuss key issues of vital importance to women across Utah Valley.
