Annual Food Fest Tradition Continues

Brigham Young University—Hawaii’s annual Food Fest event will be held on Saturday, February 4, at the Flag Circle on the BYU-Hawaii campus.  The event starts at 5 PM and finishes at 10 in the evening.

Sponsored by Student Events & Student Leadership, Activities and Service, the purpose of Food Fest is “to experience cultural cuisine, unite community and students, and support associations through fundraising.”

The BYU-Hawaii student body represents over 70 countries.  Coming from so many countries Food Fest allows campus to enjoy this cultural exchange. Food Fest is the cultural highlight for many students during the winter semester both those who prepare and serve the food and those who get to eat food from various cultures perhaps for the first time.

At Food Fest student clubs of different nations feature their foods with over 18 different cultural groups participating this year. The cultures originate from all around Asia, Polynesia, and the Americas.

The online menu advertises foods throughout Oceania from Hawaii to Samoa, and from to Tonga to Fiji. It also lists plates from Asian cultures like Japan, Mongolia, Singapore & Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan. Additionally, the cultural dishes represented from the clubs of Latin America and Zion’s Community are available.

Cash only is accepted at the event. In years past a BYUHSA stand is available to exchange cash for raffle tickets, which are given to the club stands upon purchase of food.
