Academic Leadership Updates

BYU–Hawaii is pleased to announce a few changes in the academic leadership on campus.

In the College of Math and Sciences, Dr. Jeffrey Burroughs has been invited to serve an additional three-year term as Dean of the College. (pictured left: Burroughs; pictured bottom right: Kester)

Burroughs began his career at BYU–Hawaii in 1993 as a Professor of Social Sciences. He was later made Associate Dean in 1997, and in January 2003 he began serving as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Then, in October 2008, he began to serve in his current charge as Dean of the College of Math and Sciences.

In addition, Matt Kester has agreed to serve as the Interim Director of the Library. Kester replaces Doug Bates, who has accepted a position as the Dean of Library and Learning Assistance at Tennessee Tech University.

Kester, also an alumnus of BYU–Hawaii (1999), served as a librarian in 2004 and later as the University Archivist. He earned his M.A. (2003) then Ph.D. (2007) from the University of California.
