Elder Hallstrom to Speak at Commencement

Elder Donald L. Hallstrom, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will address Brigham Young University–Hawaii’s 234 graduates and their families at this Winter’s commencement ceremony held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 9:30 AM in the Cannon Activities Center in Laie, Hawaii.

The university will award 52 associate’s degrees and 216 bachelor’s degrees. Graduates range from 19 to 57 years old. An interesting fact from this particular graduating class is that there are twelve husband-and-wife teams graduating together.

Elder Hallstrom was born and raised in Hawaii, right here on Oahu. Through his childhood, he visited often the new and growing campus of the Church College of Hawaii and later Brigham Young University–Hawaii. Prior to his call to serve in the Presidency of the Seventy on April 4, 2009, Elder Hallstrom served in the Asia Area Presidency, in the Asia North Area Presidency, as Executive Director of the Church Audiovisual Department, as a member of the Young Men general presidency, and in the North America Central Area Presidency.

He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in economics. At the time of his call to full-time Church service in 2000, he was president of The Hallstrom Group, Inc., a real estate consulting and appraisal organization based in Honolulu.

Elder Hallstrom has served as a full-time missionary in England, elders quorum president, stake high councilor, bishop, stake president, and regional representative. He was called as an Area Authority in 1995 and as an Area Authority Seventy in 1997.

Elder Hallstrom and his wife Diane are the parents of four children and have five grandchildren.

Accompanying Elder Hallstrom at BYU–Hawaii’s Winter commencement will be Mark B. Woodruff of the Church Educational System. Brother Woodruff serves as the assistant to the commissioner of the Church Educational System and as secretary to the Boards of Trustees.
