Talkin' Story: Unique Students, Diverse Perspectives

One glance at the Brigham Young University Hawaii campus, and it is easy to see that our students hail from around the world. We fly across oceans, deserts, and rainforests to this university to learn, to serve, and to share and explore our experiences with others. It is truly impossible to attend BYU-Hawaii without developing a new perspective. As we come to discover and appreciate better our global understanding, we form a tightly-knit, caring, and trusting community, uniquely and appropriately positioned in the cross-roads of the Pacific. Yet, despite the differences between us, we come to realize and celebrate that we often have more in common than not.

At BYU Hawaii, we have set out to continue to share these stories as part of Talkin’ Story, an opportunity designed to capture unique BYUH students, their perspectives, and their goals by inviting them to personally tell their stories of how they journeyed to this special school. Myself, Chase Barlet, a senior and International Business major from Denver, Colorado, and Karuna Chetty, also a senior and an English major from Sydney, Australia have already met some incredible students with inspirational stories to share with fellow students, the community, and the world, and we look forward to sharing them with you.

At BYU Hawaii, this vastly diverse place emerges as a global institution where we earn more than just a stellar education. We learn about ourselves, our lives, and the world. Through love and understanding of all people, at BYUH we prepare ourselves to develop peace internationally, spreading an awareness and celebration of all peoples, cultures, and beliefs. In writing the column, "Talkin' Story," we are thoroughly looking forward to meeting students to discover and share why our student body truly is "pure gold."

We look forward to interviewing students from all over the world to feature their incredible stories and share them with the rest of the world, so be on the lookout for the next edition of “Talkin’ Story!”
