Willes Center Holds 3rd Annual Great Ideas Video Competition

The Willes Center for International Entrepreneurship on the campus of Brigham Young University-Hawaii has announced the winners for the 3rd Annual Great Ideas Video Competition.

The Great Ideas Video Competition is one of two campus-wide business plan events sponsored every year at BYU-Hawaii. It is organized by the Mark and Laura Willes Center for International Entrepreneurship which is committed to providing classes, competitions, and events which teach and encourage entrepreneurship.  Students and community members are given the opportunity to enhance their ability as leaders while learning both business and social entrepreneurship skills.  The event was held on November 16thand 17th at BYU-Hawaii and the Polynesian Culture Center and featured keynote speakers; Fredo Solar, Benoy Tamang, Athelia Woolley Lesueur, and Rich Raddon.

“The Great Ideas Competition provides students and community members with the opportunity to share their business ideas with successful entrepreneurs to get valuable feedback and gain the funding they need to start their new venture.  More importantly, students can form lasting relationships with influential mentors and learn valuable leadership skills that will help them learn how to build their business whether it be a start-up, non-profit or NGO” said Jason Scott Earl, Academic Director for the Willes Center.

There was a total of 24 company presentations competing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in four different categories: Community, Social, International, and Domestic.  After announcing the final winners, President John Tanner (University President) addressed the students, faculty, and staff.  A link to the winning videos and presentations can be found at http://willescenter.com/great-ideas-competition/2016-winners/
